When shooting over water, it happened quickly: The drone is caught by a wave and falls into the water. But rainwater can also kill the drone.
First aid for water damage
High currents flow in a drone. Water is extremely inconvenient. Battery and drone can short-circuit and go up in smoke. In case of water damage, care must therefore be taken. Nevertheless, first aid is needed quickly to keep the damage to a minimum. This guide will help:
If the drone has become wet, the following points must be observed:
- Remove battery
- Pouring out water retention in the copter
- Allow copter to air dry for several days
Special case salt water
Salt water should be treated in particular because of the corrosive salt content. The salt eats away at electrical circuits and attacks the plug connections. If the drone falls into salt water, the affected parts must be rinsed with fresh water quickly, namely before the salt has dried. The drone is then air-dried for several days.
If the drone is well dried, it can be checked whether the device is still working.
- Remove propeller
- Insert the battery, press the on/off button. In case of smoke or excessive heating, immediately remove the battery and cancel the start attempt. The drone is damaged and needs to be checked by a professional.
- Indicates the control to start ready, start engines without propellers. When all motors properly rotate propellers mount and take off carefully.
If the drone flies as usual, the device can be used again. But be careful: Water damage, especially salt water damage, often leads to consequential damage and the drone should only be used for non-critical tasks.
